To know Lars is to love him. He’s an amazing colleague and friend by day and a talented musician and drummer for Antigone by night. He gives so much of himself to his work, his family- his mom, brother, sister-in-law, and two nieces- and many other worthwhile causes.

I am sorry to share that he has had a recurrence of Acute Myeloid Leukemia. After receiving treatment 18 months ago, Lawrence now will undergo chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant where he will be hospitalized for many weeks.

Once Lawrence leaves the hospital, he will need to return home to a sterile environment. His homecoming will require much-advanced preparation because stem cell transplants destroy and rebuild the immune system, leaving patients immunocompromised and thus more vulnerable to infection from common germs and fungus.

His home needs many unexpected retrofitting and upgrades to prepare for his time in isolation in the sterile environment. Any tiny particles that may cause harm to his immunocompromised system must be eradicated. This includes replacing his current washing machine and dryer, sinks, and potentially the sheetrock in his home.

Lawrence demonstrated great strength and resilience while undergoing prior treatment, and he continued to work throughout the process. Please keep Lawrence in your thoughts as he faces this next hurdle in his journey.
