As many of you may already know, on February 27, 2025, Shane had the flu and then fell outside and hit his head, causing a brain bleed. He was taken to UMMC in Jackson and stayed in the ICU for 8 weeks. He was either sedated or unconscious for 6 of those weeks. Other than the brain bleed, he had pneumonia twice, a fungal infection in his lungs that has caused permanent damage, and kidney issues that required constant dialysis.
There were several times when the doctors didn't give us much hope, or even called at 3 a.m. and told us that we needed to start making some decisions because they didn't think he would recover at all. Thankfully, he did survive and he continues to gradually get better.
He's now been moved to a long-term care facility that specializes in getting patients off the ventilator and doing physical therapy. He's still unable to move, and he can't talk because of the trach. His recovery is going to be slow, but he is fighting and wants to come home as soon as possible.
Since he has not been able to teach, and will not be able to for the foreseeable future, he has not had any income. I've been trying to stay on top of everything for him, but there's only so much I can do. The main things are going to be his medical bills and his health insurance deductible. If you would like to donate to help support Shane during this difficult time, I know he will appreciate every penny and every prayer.
He has asked several times about his students and I know he misses them as much as they miss him. We ask that you continue to pray for his speedy recovery and that he will keep fighting. Thank you all for the love and support.
Kitty
