For those that don't know Kira she is a vibrant and loving 17 year girl. She loves her friends, animals, and works hard at school. She had been praticing driving and was so excited for Prom this year. Recently she developed pneumonia and during her body's fight to get rid of it a virus caused her body to attack her heart. In a two week span she went from healthy and walking 2-4 miles per day to be hooked to an ECMO machine and ultimately getting a heart transplant. Now that she has returned home and we navigate to find a new "normal" she will have to be taken back to Gainesville evey two weeks for at a minimum an overnight stay for follow-up visits. Sometimes stays will be longer in duration as her journey to recovery continues. We thank you for everyone's help and support!
