I keep thinking of Miss Loris, an elder who lives up the road from my family's home. Her small wooden house is utterly damaged. Her water supply is contaminated. She has no way to charge a phone to call for help, no way to store food, and no clean water to drink.

There are tens of "Miss Loris" in Siloah, St. Elizabeth. There are mothers who cannot find clean water to mix baby formula. These are the people who cannot fight their way to the front of a relief line. They are our priority.

Right now, as you read this, large parts of Jamaica are dark. The power grid is gone —not for days, but potentially for months. The water systems are compromised. Phone lines are down.
