Join Kelly's Fight for a Full Recovery

Update from 1/11/25: It has been just over 6 weeks since Kelly’s ICH/stroke and a lot has happened. Kelly was able to transfer to a highly regarded inpatient rehabilitation hospital nearby and dive right into a full schedule of therapies, including occupational, physical, speech, and aqua therapies. Kelly is working to regain feeling and control of her right side and learning how to get around with adaptations in the meantime. Kelly is exceeding expectations of the professionals and Doug is at the facility every day to observe and cheer her on. We remain hopeful for a mid-February discharge home, where she will continue therapies on an outpatient basis for the foreseeable future.

This is all promising but there is still a long road ahead; the understood recovery period for Kelly’s type of stroke averages around a year. The outreach to all of us, whether text, social media message, or call, has been heartwarming.

Doug is returning to work while still being involved in Kelly’s daily treatments and she will be unable to return to work for some time. So many people have been so generous and we are grateful for every single donation. We understand not everyone has the ability to support financially but we are reaching out one last time to anyone who may be willing and able. The bills have started to come in and will no doubt continue, also for the foreseeable future, so every penny helps. Thank you for your consideration!

On 11/29/24, the Friday after Thanksgiving, Kelly suffered a moderate intracranial hemorrhagic stroke. She was at home with her husband of six months, Doug, when she felt unstable and began to fall. Doug was able to catch her and quickly call 911. Paramedics transported Kelly to a nearby hospital, where she remains in the Neurological Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Kelly is strong and already making steps towards recovery, like working with the hospital therapy providers to the extent she is able. This will be a long road to recovery and we anticipate there will be a hospital stay until she is able to discharge to an acute inpatient rehabilitation facility. While there, Kelly will need to complete hours of therapy each day to progress towards returning to her home. We are expecting Kelly will need ongoing therapy to support any progress made and maintain her strength.

While these facilities and services are necessary, the costs add up quickly. This fundraiser is being set up to support Kelly and Doug as they navigate this new set of circumstances as newlyweds. Donations received will help Kelly focus more fully on her recovery and allow Doug more flexibility to participate in Kelly's treatment. Any contribution is appreciated and any amount is valuable. From Kelly, Doug, and their extended families - thank you!
