Join Kate's Fight Against Cancer

Hey everyone - Kelsey here.

As you might know, Kate has been battling recurrent stage 4 cancer since 2021. We've been on a roller coaster of ups and downs, bad PET scans and good. Last year, she fought through 5 months of chemo and battled some back-to-back infections from June to December, all of which resulted in her needing the use of a wheelchair and some extra support in day-to-day life (which she loved). This year, we've been on the up - PT helping her get to walker use and every day closer to getting rid of that too.

Since the end of chemo, she's been on immunotherapy (Keytruda) with the goal of keeping the cancer away. Three months ago, we got the news we've been waiting for years for - she could say out loud she was cancer-free! Unfortunately, this feeling didn't last. The most recent PET is telling us it's trying to come back yet again.

Now we're on our way to MD Anderson for a second opinion and a goal to finally kick cancer's butt.

Obviously, Kate is my mom, but she is also my very best friend. I am so grateful that she is willing to continue to want to fight this disease even after what she endured last year. We don't know what the next steps are yet, but we know it's not time to give up.

If you know Kate, you know her nature is to take care of others - and not have to be taken care of herself. (So that's why I'm here)

Houston is far from our home in SC; the first step is to get there to determine treatment. I know it's time to reach out to our friends and family who love Kate as much as I do.
