Hi there, for anyone that does not know me, my name is Kaila. I'm 21 years old, and my best friend Molly has been recently hospitalized. Molly is a three-year-old Goldendoodle; she is the sweetest, most affectionate, and most loyal dog. Molly recently had a litter of puppies, and as my family and I were all excited and occupied with the puppies, it all quickly changed to fear. I noticed Molly had swelling in one of her breasts; she was acting different and had a difficult time getting up once she laid down. My mom and I decided to take her to our new primary vet. The staff treated her by releasing some fluid in the breast, administering injectable medication, and prescribing antibiotics for us to go home with. They also recommended we put warm and cold compresses on the inflamed area to help continue draining the milk that was built up. That's exactly what we did. The next day, the area began to turn purple. I immediately called the vet to see if they wanted me to bring her back in. It was on a Saturday, and they told me that they were all booked for the day and that I needed to give the antibiotics more time. My mom and I continued treating it as recommended, but the area got worse through the following day. It's now the third day, and the infected breast is now completely black. I didn't know what to do. A friend of a friend, who's a vet tech, said I need to take her to the animal hospital as soon as possible. After this vet visit, we were sent home with different antibiotics than what the primary vet prescribed for her. The next day, I still did not see any progress on the infected area, but my mom and I decided to see how it would do during the day. Later that night, I began to look at it and found an open flesh wound. I put Molly in the car and drove 45 minutes to an animal hospital that has wound care. She was admitted Monday, December 16th, and has been having necrotic tissue removed each day. She has also had multiple IVs, catheters, and been put under anesthesia multiple times. Through this all, she has been nothing but loving. Each vet that has seen her has given such wonderful compliments on how well-behaved and sweet she has been. This being my first dog, it's been very hard to see her away and in pain. I'm hoping she will be able to come home in time for Christmas. Even when she does, we will have to continue treatment for her to make a full recovery. I thought I caught the issue fast and got the help I needed the first vet visit, but I was also surprised at the cost of it all as well. I was sadly mistaken as each vet visit has gone by. I am shocked and overwhelmed each time, hoping for the most positive outcome. I am trying to do anything I can to make sure my best friend can come home and everything can go back to the way it was. Anything will help to support Molly's recovery. Thank you.
