A Call for Help: Juan's Long Road to Recovery
Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,
I am writing this today with a broken heart, desperate to share our pain, but also to share our hope. If you know my husband, Juan Briceno-Luna, you know that he is the foundation of our family, the man who gives everything for those he loves. He’s the one who can’t walk past someone in need without offering help—whether it’s fixing a neighbor’s car, lifting someone’s spirits with his warm smile, or sharing one of his famous tea remedies to keep everyone around him feeling young and strong. He works tirelessly, never thinking of himself, always putting us all before his own needs.
Juan is the man who comes home from long, exhausting days at work, only to ask, “What can I do to help?” He never hesitates to lend a hand, never turns down the opportunity to give. He is the loving husband who makes me laugh even when I feel like crying, the devoted father who will always be there for his children, and the proud grandfather who adores his grandchildren with all his heart. He’s the one who makes everything feel better, no matter how hard life gets. He’s the glue that holds us all together.
But on January 4th, our world shattered in an instant. Juan suffered a massive, hemorrhagic stroke—an overwhelming blow that has caused severe bleeding in his brain. I’m sitting here, struggling to find the words to describe the pain, the fear, the helplessness I feel watching the man I love, the man who has always been so full of life, now fighting for his life in the ICU. The doctors tell us his road to recovery will be long, uncertain, and painful. He’ll need to stay in the ICU for weeks, and with gods will when he finally gets home, his recovery will require months, maybe even years, of rehabilitation.
We don’t know if the man we all know and love will ever be the same again. But one thing I know for sure—Juan will never stop fighting. And we will never stop fighting for him.
The reality of this sudden tragedy is more than we can bear. On top of the emotional toll, we are facing the overwhelming weight of financial uncertainty. Juan was in the process of switching his health insurance when this happened, and as a result, he has no coverage. The medical bills are mounting by the day, and we have no way of knowing how we’ll manage the costs of his care and rehabilitation. While we are hopeful for a full recovery, the financial burden is a crushing blow that we cannot face alone.
I never thought I’d be asking for help like this. Our family has always prided ourselves on being strong, on standing on our own. But now, we find ourselves at a loss, reaching out in desperation. We are humbly asking for your support during this unimaginable time. Any donation—no matter how small—will go directly to Juan’s medical expenses, and god willing his rehabilitation, and the care he will need as he starts the long journey back to us.
But more than donations, we ask for your prayers. We need your strength. We need your love. We need your hope. The road ahead is long and filled with uncertainty, but I know with all my heart that the love and support of our family, friends, and even strangers can make all the difference. Juan has always been the one to help others, and now, more than ever, he needs the help of everyone he’s ever touched.
Juan is not just my husband; he’s the heart of our family. Without him, our world feels dark and broken. But I believe with all my soul that together, we can bring him back. Together, we can help him heal.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kindness, your support, and your prayers. We can’t do this without you.
With all our love and deepest gratitude,
~ The Briceno Family
