HI, My name is Shirley. I'd like to tell you a little about my son Jonathan Wade. First I'm about the only one who calls him Jonathan. He's been going by John since middle school. John just had his 48th birthday March 1st. It wasn't a pleasant birthday. I'll tell you why in a bit.
John is a great guy. He's funny, caring & doesn't know a stranger. He's the guy who makes you feel comfortable when you're talking to him. He loves spending time with his 22 year old son Jared. He and his fiance' Donna ( she's in the picture with him) also spend a lot of time caring for her 18 month old grandson Max.
Max loves Grampy John.
Life was going along pretty good. Then in December he noticed a swollen lymph node in his neck. It grew. He got concerned. His Doctor ordered a CT scan for Feb 13.
BAD NEWS! Before John got home, his doctor was calling him. The scan showed cancer.
- Diagnosed Feb 24 with Stage 4 Small Cell Lung Cancer
- Spread to lymph nodes
- Several tumors in upper right lobe & lymph nodes
- 4.5cm tumor encroaching into his chest wall
- 8.1 cm tumor in a lobe pressing on his Superior Vena Cava.
He started chemo March 3rd. He has been struggling with pain in neck, back & chest. Extremely sore & raw throat, nausea, vomiting, can't eat, no energy. Sometimes he can't sleep ; at other times all he does is sleep.
John & Donna can't plan their wedding because he doesn't know from one day to the next if he'll be able to go anywhere.
HE NEEDS FINANCIAL HELP.
- Disability pays him 60% of his wages
- His copays are 20%
- His drugs cost $185 a month
- His doctor prescribed supplements cost over $100/month
- Transportation, lodging, food costs for multi day stay for treatments at City of Hope.
- Then his 2004 truck broke down.
He hasn't given up. He's a fighter. It's difficult to remain positive when all these external stressors are weighing him down.
Please help if you can.
