Jim’s Journey to Recovery Update
Dad had a pet scan last Friday. On Monday he saw his oncologist, Dr Kodali, in Evansville. She was concerned with the pet scan only showing slight progress and with him having increased pain in his abdomen, she wanted to consult with his oncologist, Dr Dholoria, at Vanderbilt.
After speaking with Dholoria, he wanted dad at his office Tuesday morning, so his scheduled chemo was cancelled and off to Nashville mom and dad went. Dholoria says he should be in remission by now and that his cancer seems to have become resistant to the current chemo regimen. The mass in his abdomen has increased in size as well as the area by his tailbone, and a new nodule appeared in the upper left lobe of his lung. The new nodule is too small to biopsy, so they will continue to monitor it.
Dholoria doesn’t want to waste anymore time and is now changing his treatment plan. So now he will begin the approval process for Car T-Cell Therapy. This has to be done at Vanderbilt, we will have to relocate there for at least a month in the near future.
Car T-Cell Therapy is a type of Immunotherapy that uses altered T cells to fight the cancer. They will draw his blood, separate his T Cells from his blood, then genetically modify his T Cells, and infuse them back into him. The T cells are engineered to find and kill the cancer cells.
This is just a bump in the road, however we are hopeful this treatment will get him into remission.
I have a had a few people reach out wanting to help and wanted me to update the gofundme. Again any little bit can help. Thank you all for everything this far! -Hunter
Dear friends and family, I'm reaching out to ask for your support during a challenging time for my parents, Jim and Tracy. Recently, my dad was diagnosed with B Cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. This has included many endeavors including an extended hospital stay. As of today he is still in the hospital but has successfully completed one treatment of chemotherapy with no major issues. Our family is navigating this difficult and unexpected journey with hope and courage. To help alleviate the financial strain of medical treatments and expenses, I have started this GoFundMe page. Any contribution, big or small, would mean the world to us and would go directly towards easing the burden on my parents so they can focus on Dad's recovery. Your kindness and generosity during this difficult period would be deeply appreciated. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
