Critical Need: Help IIBA Support 500 Dreamers
Donation protected
***UPDATE JULY 16TH, 2021****
One Friday July 16, 2021, a decision by a federal judge in Texas has put initial DACA applications on hold. They can still be submitted, but cannot be approved until a higher court changes this. This also affects initial DACA applications that have already been submitted and they are also on hold for now. Renewal DACA applications can still be filed and approved.
To-date, 700,0000 young immigrants have benefited from DACA, as has our country. These young immigrants are vital members of our community, and their home is here. DACA has allowed these young immigrants to pursue their dreams and careers. Today, 27,000 healthcare workers and an additional 200,000 essential workers are DACA recipients. They are our friends, our neighbors, our coworkers, our family and our future.
The costly $495 fee to apply for DACA is a major obstacle for these young immigrants. During COVID-19, many immigrant families are being forced to choose between putting food on the table and paying the costly government fees to obtain or maintain their immigration status.
IIBA needs your help NOW.
All funds raised will directly support 500 DACA recipients and their families.
As President Joe Biden stated on Election Day, “Dreamers are Americans — and it’s time we make it official.”
The Immigration Institute of the Bay Area (IIBA) is a 103-year-old nonprofit that helps immigrants, refugees, and their families join and contribute to the community. For real examples of individuals who have advocated for change and this important work, please continue to read below:
"Because of donors like you I had my $495 fee covered in full this October. Obtaining DACA has changed my life for the better because I now feel financially secure especially during the pandemic. This is because I am able to keep a stable job, legally, where I know I won’t be exploited for being undocumented. I am also able to do things that I wouldn’t have been able to do without DACA like: travel, have a social security number, and also be able to receive health insurance. I encourage you to donate, if you can, to this fundraiser because the $495 government fee is often a major obstacle in obtaining DACA status especially for those applying for the first time." - Rodrigo, IIBA DACA Client
