Friday afternoon Hutchie started getting a little cold. He also has 4 teeth coming in, so we thought that was playing a role in how he was feeling as well. Over the weekend it progressively got worse and by the middle of the night Tuesday, he was having difficulties breathing. I rushed him to the ER and they took X-rays of his chest. They concluded that he either had pneumonia or bronchitis. It turns out he has both. It started from a common virus that’s going around called, Human Meta Pnemuo Virus. After blood work was completed, they also found that his hemoglobin levels were critically low and causing severe animia. Due to how low his levels were, a blood transfusion needed to be started immediately. We were then transported via ambulance to Banners Children’s Hospital here in Mesa.
We have been here since yesterday morning and a lot has happened. His body didn’t like all the blood that it was receiving and caused fluid to back up in his lungs as well as his heart to start giving out because it was so tired from working overtime. So we had to stop the blood transfusion last night, so he could be sedated and incubated while they work to clear his lungs of fluids. Overnight we had some struggles keeping his heart rate where it should be, keeping him comfortable, and preventing him from fighting the respirator tube he doesn’t like down his throat. As of today, his oxygen levels are doing better, and his hemoglobin counts have increased slightly. We are about to start the blood transfusion again and hoping to not have the lungs fill with fluid. We still have a long road ahead of us but we are hopeful he will be back to his old self soon.
As luck would have it, our medical insurance isn’t set to start for 2 more weeks at my new job. So, we are looking at out of pocket expenses for an ER visit, an ambulance ride, and a children’s hospital visit. As well as income loss due to being at the hospital day / night with Hutchie. We are expected to be here through the weekend and most likely next week. But it’s a moment by moment situation. I have no idea what the final cost of this will be or what we are even in for. Jesse and I have always struggled with asking for help from other people, but we are way in over our heads here and just feel like we can’t do this on our own. Our only concern here is getting Hutchie healthy and back to being the Happy Hutchie we all know and love. Thank you in advance for any contributions made. Our family is incredibly appreciative and thankful to have you all in our lives. ❤️
