Hello,
I’m Mel and thank you for listening to our story. On May 24th, my family adopted Wesley, a white German Shepherd mix, from a Rescue in Connecticut. Wesley and Christopher, our son, chose each other and it was clear that Wesley was supposed to be part of our family.
We fell in love with Wesley, but noticed his behavior was peculiar for a puppy. He was sleeping all day and not eating anything. Three days after getting Wesley, we took him to the emergency vet, but the vet didn’t find the issue to his strange behavior.
Wesley didn’t eat for another two days, was weak, and slept all day and night, so we brought him to our vet. Our vet said he was in critical condition and needed to go to a veterinary hospital immediately.
Wesley spent hours at the hospital and was diagnosed with pneumonia. They sent us home with an antibiotic and multiple meds. One of his meds was an appetite stimulant. After having the pup for 6 days, Wesley finally ate and we thought he was on the mend, but we were wrong.
Two days after the visit at the hospital, Wesley developed a serious cough and we noticed he was struggling to breathe, so we brought him back to the hospital. He was admitted and has been there for three nights now struggling for his life. His pneumonia spread and needs around the clock medical care. He’s been receiving oxygen and we finally got some hopeful news this evening that he’s been having spurts of puppy energy. (6/4/24).
Update (6/10/24):
Wesley is back in the ICU of the hospital after coming home for a few days. He has not eaten for two days and sleeps around the clock. Please send positive vibes. Our puppy is really struggling to stay alive.
Update (6/11/24):
Wesley has been moved to a veterinary hospital in Connecticut and is stable. His blood sugar levels are very low and he’s dehydrated from not eating or drinking. He is being treated for his malnutrition and pneumonia. They’re also waiting for his bloodwork labs to come back to see if anything else is going on. We’ll find more out tomorrow.
I’ve always been told it takes a community to raise a child. Wesley is our fur baby. Our first puppy as a family together. I’m trying to put aside my pride and I’m asking for help to get us through this unexpected health and financial burden.
Thank you,
Mel
