Gary first fought and beat Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma when it was discovered in his voice box. It was blocking almost 90% of his airway by the time it was discovered and an amazing surgeon at CARTI removed it, along with his vocal cords, his voice box, half his thyroid and 8 of his lymph nodes. We knew it would return but we thought we had more time. This is an aggressive cancer so we knew it would return but we thought we had years before it did. Sadly, within a year a CT scan found 10 nodules (tumors) in his lungs on a maintenance visit this past August. He was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastatic Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma of the Lungs. We knew he'd been getting tired and now we knew why. We learned that this was the same cancer and so it doesn't respond to chemo. His options were limited because the only medication he could really take had a limited response to smaller cases so they were "cautiously optimistic" that it would work. Gary started looking for anything else. He located a trial in Houston and reached out. With the help of doctors at CARTI, he was able to get into said trial and we've learned after starting the trial that this is the FIRST time that there is a real chance at an actual CURE for his type of cancer!!!! We are so excited to be a part of this!! The only problem is that it is quite expensive to go back and forth the first 2 months. Some of our expenses will be reimbursed to us but we have to pay everything up front. We also have to meet his deductible and have $4458 left of that in medical bills. In this amount we tried to figure in oil changes and gas and all the things we will be needing due to all the driving we will need to do. We will be driving down once a week from Arkansas to Houston for the first 2 months and then once every other week for a couple months and then once a month until they tell us further. I want to take time to thank everyone who has already helped us!! This has been a long road and we have some amazing friends and family who have helped us make this less stressful! To those who are able to donate, thank you for the blessing you are to us!! We couldn't do this without you!! To those who are unable to donate at this time, we understand that times are tough but we could still use your support by sharing this out and could always use your thoughts and prayers!! I am so thankful for the community we have built around us! We are the luckiest people I know!! God is good all the time and all the time God is good!!
