Support Gabriella’s Recovery
On Monday, October 21st, at 12:26 a.m., Gabriella Salazar was a passenger in a near-fatal car accident that has left her with devastating injuries and a prediction of less than 5% chance of walking again. The impact resulted in a broken back, broken wrist, several broken ribs, and a sprained ankle, along with numerous cuts and bruises.
Gabriella underwent her first surgery on Wednesday, October 23rd, to repair a burst fracture of her L2 vertebra and decompress the nerves. Additionally, she received a spinal fusion to stabilize her L1 and L3 vertebrae, using a plate and four screws. Thankfully, the skilled surgeons at Emmanuel were able to perfectly execute the surgical plan. However, Gabriella now faces a long and challenging road to recovery before her life can return to some resemblance of normalcy.
Her next surgery is scheduled for Monday, October 28th, to repair her broken wrist. As we look towards the months ahead, we remain very hopeful, but we understand that this journey will be strenuous and lengthy. Due to the nature of her injuries, Gabriella will be unable to work or maintain her previously active lifestyle. Now Gabriella will need to place all of her energy and focus on her healing and rehabilitation. With this being said, we are seeking immediate assistance to help her cover financial responsibilities.
During this difficult time, Gabriella has been surrounded by her loving family, close friends, and the incredible support of skilled surgeons, nurses, and doctors. Her father who lives in another state has taken a leave of absence to dedicate himself to helping her with her recovery. Any support offered will also help him adjust during his time in Portland.
On behalf of Gabriella, her parents, and her family, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for your prayers, love, positivity, and generosity.
Thank you,
