On Wednesday, May 7th, 13-year-old Ethan Jones was admitted to Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland for a routine surgery in his abdomen. The surgery went well, though unfinished. During Ethan's recovery, he experienced respiratory issues and went into Acute Respiratory Failure. He was transferred downstairs to the Pediatric ICU (PICU).
Over the course of the last 7 days, Ethan has battled bladder, respiratory, and now bowel complications. Ethan is on his way to trending in a more positive direction; however, there is still no timetable on a discharge from PICU, much less the hospital stay itself.
Ethan was born with Myotonic Muscular Dystrophy, making difficult the most simple daily achievements that most of us take for granted. This affliction is aiding in his post-surgical recovery, in particular the complications with his respiratory system and bowels.
Ethan's family has been by his side the entire week, missing work and losing income in order to support Ethan's hospital stay. With your love, support, and donation, the family can stay caught up on their financial responsibilities while on their lengthy stay away from home.
