Hi, my name is Emi Torres. I’m 23 years old, and a few months ago, I was diagnosed with stage 3 testicular cancer.
It started as a teratoma in my right testicle, which I had removed, but it ended up spreading to my lymph nodes. It spread from my chest down into my abdomen and pelvis with a total of 6 cancerous tumors in my lymph nodes across my body. Some of those lymph nodes are pretty large and wrapped around major blood vessels. Thankfully, they’re not causing organ damage right now, and that’s all thanks to the Lord considering how long I’ve had it for.
It’s been a long process just to get to this point. I wasn’t able to start treatment right away because I didn’t have insurance, and it took several months of waiting and trying to get approved after finding out I had stage three cancer at the beginning of the year. Now that I have insurance, I’ve started four cycles of BEP chemotherapy. Each cycle is five days in the hospital followed by recovery at home. Afterward, I’ll likely need surgery depending on what remains, so the whole journey will take about five to six months.
This whole experience has been a lot, but I’ve felt very at peace through it knowing the Lord is with me alongside this great community. I genuinely believe the Lord is walking with me through every step of this. Even in moments of suffering it is a blessing to be able to lean on a great Lord.
I’m sharing all of this because, during chemo, I won’t be able to work, and I’ve already racked up over $25,000 in medical bills just getting to this point. I also need help covering basic living expenses, things like groceries, bills, and gas to get to appointments. And once treatment is over, I’d love to have a little support getting back on my feet, especially with things like tuition and being able to move forward again after all this. I haven’t been able to save or earn much these past few months due to my cancer, and chemo will probably stretch that out a while longer too.
If you feel led to support, whether that’s through prayer, encouragement, or financial help, I’m honestly so grateful. Please don’t feel pressured to give financially. I know everyone has their own responsibilities, their own stress, and their own things they’re dealing with. Your prayers mean the world to me. Even just a kind message or a check-in holds real weight in my life right now.
Thank you for reading this, and thank you for being part of my journey, however that may look. I appreciate it more than I can put into words.
