Dear Friends, Family, and Kindhearted Strangers,

I never imagined I would be writing this, but today, my amazing husband, Dion, is fighting for his life as he waits for a heart transplant.

Dion is not just my husband—he’s a loving father, son, friend, uncle, cousin, United States Veteran and the kind of person who always puts others first. He has worked so hard his entire life to provide for his family, support his community, serve is country and be there for anyone in need. Now, he’s the one who needs our help.

A Lifetime of Strength & Perseverance

Fifteen years ago, at a time when most people wouldn’t expect it, Dion underwent a quadruple bypass surgery. Since then, he has endured 10 stents to keep his heart functioning. Despite these major health challenges, he never once let it slow him down. He continued to work tirelessly, push forward, and fight through every obstacle because providing for his family was always his top priority.

Then, in Summer 2024, everything changed.

A Sudden Turn – The Fight of His Life

After years of battling heart disease while still working and taking care of those around him, Dion suffered a life-threatening cardiac event. This marked the beginning of a devastating journey filled with hospital stays, emergency treatments, and months of testing to determine if he could qualify for a heart transplant.

After many months of uncertainty, in Fall 2024, we received the news we had been desperately waiting for—he was officially listed for a heart transplant.

We held onto hope, but in early February, things took another devastating turn. His heart deteriorated even further, and one night, he suffered a life-saving defibrillator shock that jolted his heart back into rhythm. The very next day, he underwent emergency surgery, and shortly after, we were told the unimaginable:

He must remain in the ICU until he receives a new heart.

Living in the ICU – Waiting for a Miracle

Now, Dion is living in the ICU indefinitely, waiting for the call that will save his life. He has good days and bad days, but through it all, he continues to fight with unbelievable strength and determination. Some days, he is able to sit up and talk, while others are filled with exhaustion and uncertainty. The physical and emotional toll of this journey has been immense, but we are holding onto faith and hope.

Even in the midst of this battle, his spirit remains unbreakable. He has always been a fighter, and he refuses to give up.

His Mission After Transplant

Through this incredibly difficult experience, my husband has found a new purpose. His goal when he survives this is to dedicate his time to helping other heart transplant recipients and their families navigate the uncertainty of this process. He has seen firsthand how overwhelming and isolating this journey can be, and he is determined to pay it forward by offering support, resources, and hope to those who will walk this path after him.
