Join Dina in Her Mom's Battle Against Cancer

Hello, my name is Dina. As most of you have been aware of my mom’s medical conditions over the past couple of months. To start, my mom was diagnosed about 2-3 years ago with a more severe case of Lupus. On a normal day with flare ups, she struggles immensely causing her mobility and daily functions hard to manage without being in excruciating pain. Back in May, she started losing a significant amount of weight, extremely fatigued and over all pale. Before we knew it, she was immediately admitted for ongoing treatment and observation. Following we met with a hematology oncology team to do a bone marrow biopsy to get a better understanding of what was happening. Fast forward to today- she has been receiving chemo treatments for a little over a month now. We received some pretty devastating news today at mom’s appointment. We obtained more details pertaining to her bone marrow biopsy that was done back in May. We were hoping at the time that she only had one of the genetic mutations/markings pertaining to her MDS/AML diagnosis. That being said, we learned she has 4. It was discussed with her oncology team that we now reevaluate her treatment plans and need to take a more aggressive approach. In addition to her injection chemo shots, we will need to incorporate 2 additional oral chemo therapy medications for the additional 21 days of the month. The hope is to eliminate the 3 mutations, to prepare her body for a bone marrow transplant. She will start a chemo program for 3 months in hopes by month 4 we can prepare for the best case scenario for transplant. If the markers/mutuations are still present we will presume an additional 3 months. Per the doctor she needs to be in remission of those 3 mutations in order to proceed. As you can imagine, my heart is completely broken.

As unfortunate as it is, the medical bills are starting to pile up and most have asked how to help. My mom receiving the best care possible while being able to be stress free of financial burdens is ideally the best case scenario here.
