Hello, this fundraiser is for Derrick Valdez, organized by the therapy team of Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital. Derrick is one of the nicest and hardest working men you could ever meet. He has worked for 15 years as a Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) helping others and now it's our turn to help him and his family. Derrick is more than a PTA, he keeps our team running logistically and is a great friend who provides constant support.
Derrick had experienced difficulty over the last few months with abdominal pain, trouble sleeping, and shortness of breath. He began doctor visits to problem solve. During a typical workday on Saturday, August 20th, he had to leave early due to severe abdominal pain. He went to the ER and was found to have appendicitis. The next day in preop, his appendix ruptured and he was rushed into emergency surgery. It was then the doctors found Stage 4 metastatic cancer. At this time, he remains hospitalized while recovering from surgery and preparing a plan for his cancer battle.
In his calm and loyal spirit, Derrick has vowed to fight the cancer and not give up. This will be a long road to recovery with chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery. We humbly ask for your support on this journey. All donations will go to Derrick, his wife, and their children for medical expenses, rent, groceries, and monthly household bills. We will post updates as we receive them.
