5/3: We wanted to share an important update with all of you who have been walking alongside Dave in his fight against leukemia. On May 9th, our dad will undergo his bone marrow transplant at the Cleveland Clinic, a critical step in his journey toward healing.
Following the transplant, Dad will remain on the Cleveland Clinic campus for 100 days, closely monitored by his care team. It will be a challenging time, but we are holding onto hope and strength, fueled by the incredible support we’ve received from all of you.
Your prayers, messages, and donations have helped keep our dad’s spirits up and remind us daily that we are not in this alone. The love and generosity shown by our community continue to lift us in ways we can’t fully express.
We will keep posting updates on his progress and how he’s handling this next phase of treatment. Thank you for standing with us—we are so grateful for each and every one of you.
2025 has been a year of unexpected and heartbreaking challenges for our family. On February 13th, my father, David Zanville, was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML), a rare and aggressive form of cancer. The words no one expects to hear—you have cancer.
Since that moment, Dad has undergone 30 days of inpatient treatment at the Cleveland Clinic, including continuous chemotherapy, blood transfusions, antibiotics, and platelet transfusions. Just when we thought we had a sense of what we were facing, on March 6th, we learned that his leukemia has spread to his spinal fluid, requiring even more aggressive treatments, as we continue to work towards a potential transplant.
Dad’s treatment schedule is intense and exhausting. Home for two weeks then back in the hospital at Cleveland Clinic for one week of intensive care. This cycle will continue until he is ready for a bone marrow transplant, which we are praying will happen soon. Once he’s ready for the transplant, he will need to be hospitalized for six weeks, followed by an additional 50-60 days of housing on the Cleveland Clinic campus for close monitoring and continued care.
The toll this has taken on my Dad, as well as our entire family, has been immense. We have been trying to stay strong and positive through every step, but we can’t deny that the emotional and financial stress is overwhelming. Every day, we take things one step at a time—holding onto hope, keeping each other motivated, and leaning on the love and strength of those around us.
In this difficult time, we are reaching out for your support. We’ve set up this account to help ease some of the financial burden that comes with this journey. The costs of frequent travel between his home in Toledo to the Cleveland Clinic, ongoing doctor’s visits, and additional treatments are overwhelming. Your donations and prayers will go a long way in supporting my father’s care, helping our family stay by his side during every stage of treatment, and keeping the focus on his healing.
We are hopeful that with the continued love and strength of our family and community, along with the right treatment plan, we can look forward to a transplant that could change the course of my father’s life and give him a fighting chance.
Thank you for taking time to read our story. We are grateful for every bit of love, support, and kindness we’ve received so far and are hopeful for what lies ahead.
