Join Dan Rumsey's Battle Against Leukemia

Dear Friends, Family, and Community,

We are reaching out to you to support Dan Rumsey, a beloved husband, father, friend, teacher, and high school baseball coach who has recently been diagnosed with leukemia. This shocking news has not only shaken Dan and his family and friends, but also the entire community he has dedicated his life to.

Dan has always been there for others, inspiring countless students and young athletes to strive for greatness both on and off the field. Now, it's our turn to rally around him and his family during this challenging time. Dan was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia on October 17th. Treatment for leukemia can be incredibly costly, and as Dan focuses on his treatment, we want to ease some of the financial burdens he and his family are facing. Treatment includes an intense chemotherapy protocol and ongoing blood and platelet transfusions. To achieve a cure, Dan will require a stem cell transplant as soon as a match is found.

Your generous donations will go towards medical expenses, treatment, and supporting his family as they navigate this difficult journey. It is estimated that it will be a minimum of one year before Dan is able to return to work. Every contribution, no matter how big or small, will make a significant difference and help Dan focus on what matters most: his health and spending time with his loved ones.

2. Stem Cell Transplant Donors--cheek swab or blood draw to see if you’re a match for Dan. Finding a match is necessary in finding a cure for Dan.

a. To be tested to see if you are a match specifically for Dan, please make an appointment at one of the following labs near you: LabCorp, Histogenetics, Inc., Kashi Clinical Laboratories, Inc. (formerly Tepnel). (Or call LabCorp at 800.533.10three7 and request a kit be sent to you. It will arrive to your home in 1-2 days, and will be resulted in 1 week. Once resulted, you will be billed $150). This would be an expense of your own. Once your results are back, please contact Cindy, the Pre-Stem Cell Transplant Coordinator at MD Anderson, who will review your results with you to see if you are a potential match for Dan. Please email your results to Cindy at csegovia @ mdanderson .org with Dan’s name in the subject line.

b. Visit www.bethematch.org and join the national registry. Your free check swab kit will come in the mail. Your results will be put into the registry within 6-8 weeks of your kit being returned. If you are not flagged as a match for Dan, you may be able to save the life of someone else.

3. Donate blood or platelets in Daniel Rumsey’s name (DOB 09/03/1989) at an MD Anderson Cancer Center donation center.

b. Visit the website www.mdandersonbloodbank.org to donate blood or platelets (both needed!) in Dan’s name at an MD Anderson donation center.
