This is my beautiful niece Cyprus. She just turned 5 years old on May 12th, 2025. She has been super excited to start kindergarten next month and make tons of friends at school. At about 2:45 pm on August 5th, her mom (my sister) brought Cyprus to her primary care physician due to a fever of 103 and severe pain. The pain was initially thought to be due to constipation. They spent a few hours running tests and ultimately around 8:10 pm, the on-call doctor told them that they would need to bring Cyprus to the children's hospital in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. She was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
Cyprus immediately received platelet and whole blood transfusions in preparation for a port surgery for her chemotherapy medications. She was scheduled to start chemotherapy today, but updates from my sister are infrequent due to the obvious stress of the situation.
Needless to say, this was completely unexpected. I have personally never had cancer hit so close to home and am literally in tears typing this. Cyprus is generally a happy, goofy little girl, but I can only imagine how this is impacting her, her mom, her dad, and her big brother who would do anything to protect her.
A huge concern that we have is not just the obvious medical bills, but how does a parent deal with the fact that their child is going through this and still have to deal with the fact that they need to go to work and try to put on a smile for the workplace just to bring in money to support their family. None of this is coming from them. These are my thoughts. If we could afford to, we would support them financially through this entire thing, but as we all know, that's just not feasible. If you or anyone you know could even just donate $1 to help Cyprus and her family, we would be so grateful.
There is so much that could be said, but obviously, words cannot describe how much we need the support of the community. 100% of the funds (minus GoFundMe's fees) will go directly toward Cyprus's care. Any excess funds will go to a relevant leukemia research charity of her parents' choice or back into GoFundMe to directly assist another family in need of support.
