On the morning of Saturday, July 6th Corbin woke up early with a high fever. The family was in Asheville at the time and decided to drive back home early so he could be comfortable there. As the day progressed Ashley started noticing a petechiae rash develop on his inner thigh. She debated on bringing him to the ER that evening but decided to wait until the next day to see if anything changed.
On Sunday, July 7th Corbin again woke up with a high fever. It was well controlled with ibuprofen and acetaminophen but definitely still lurking despite the meds. Ashley also noticed the petechiae had spread to his knees, elbows, and ears.
Re-wind to a few weeks ago, Ashley had taken Corbin to the doctor for frequent nose bleeds. Not the kind you have to clot but just blood tinged discharge. They chalked it up to him having a dry nose and he was showing no other symptoms at that point. In addition, they noticed Corbin had a lot less energy than usual. He frequently just wanted to be held and didn’t enjoy running around like usual, but again…chalked it up to just being a “toddler stage”.
Back to Sunday, July 7th. Considering all of the symptoms Corbin had presented with: fever, petechiae, nose bleeds, loss of energy…they knew something wasn’t right and he needed to be seen. They drove him to the CHOA ER that afternoon where their worst fear was confirmed.
Corbin has B-Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (B-Cell ALL).
The mountain before them is huge. They are scared and heartbroken for their little boy and all that his body is about to endure. They are also so proud of the bravery and courage he has already shown at just two years old.
Jonathan, Ashley and Palmer are already overwhelmed with gratitude for the support that’s been shown to Corbin. It truly will take a village to climb this mountain.
