Join Clay's Journey Through Cancer

On June 23, 2024 Clay went into Dell Seton in Austin for hip pain. What we thought was a minor health issue became more than we ever expected.

First the doctors found a tumor that caused his pelvic bone to fracture leaving him unable to walk without pain and physical therapy. Further tests revealed multiple lesions throughout the body. The primary lesions were found in his brain, liver and lungs. This has all led to a diagnosis of Lung Cancer that has metastasized.

Clay is a fighter and if you know Clay, he has a positive attitude. And in typical Clay fashion, even with this life altering diagnosis, he is making jokes with his nurses. Right now the focus is chemotherapy for his body and radiation on his brain. This is the first step towards him getting better. We do know there will be many more steps after this one.

Clay will have to spend time between home at our Half A$$ Ranch property outside of Austin and the hospitals in Austin and surrounding areas. He wants to be there for me and I know being home will also give him an even bigger reason to fight. However, we do have a long road ahead of us as he just had his first round of Chemo on July 3 before starting radiation.

Clay has given back in so many ways. He was a golf pro for many years teaching kids the game and in 2008 was awarded Top 50 Teacher for US Kids Golf. He has also had many students get golf scholarships for college. Clay not only has helped kids but also families as his career switched from golf to catastrophe management which helps families in need reconstruct their home when the unthinkable happens. He has always been there for everyone. And now this man who has given so selflessly to others needs help in return.

Clay is unable to work for now. We are accumulating medical bills and working off of one income. And if you know me, you know I have worked not only full time in sales for years, but also as a driver for the Pedal Pub in Austin and whenever we feel like splurging, I pick up shifts with other gig economy jobs. But with the care Clay needs, my ability to take on the extra work outside of our home is more of a challenge.

We bought our dream home last year outside of Austin and live here with our fur babies, Athens & Kyoto. Clay and I have accomplished so much out here through hard work and dedication and our dreams of living on our own land is what is motivating Clay now. We want to be able to get what Clay needs which will include home medical equipment and transportation arrangements to Austin about 45 min away. I’ve got to maintain my job and make ends meet for our home. Clay has always been there for everyone, now he needs everyone to be there for him.

Clay is a fighter and will get through this!
