My name is Chadani, and I am a senior at Dartmouth College on the pre-med track. I was born in a refugee camp in Nepal, and we moved to the US 13 years ago. Now, I am back in my birth country after 13 years to give back to my community.
Through a program at Dartmouth, I had the opportunity to build my internship, and the first thought I had was to do it in Nepal. After talking to the organization I am working with, Institute for Rural Development (IRD), we discussed doing a project on cervical cancer education and outreach, as well as conducting pop-up clinics for screening in villages located on the outskirts of Pokhara such as Pachabhaiya, Begnas, and Rupa Gaunpalika.
Cervical cancer is the leading cause of death among Nepali women even though it is easily preventable. My goal is to teach and inform how they can prevent it and also be proactive about getting tested. There are stigmas and disparities that have prevented them from seeking care, and I plan to change that. To make this happen, I urgently need your support. Your donation will directly fund:
- VIA testing kits for early detection.
- Educational materials and flyers for awareness campaigns.
- The resources needed to run vital pop-up clinics.
This initiative is designed for sustainable impact. We are committed to continuing and expanding this program well beyond my internship, reaching more remote villages and transforming the lives of countless women for years to come. Your donation is a seed investment in health equity and a testament to the power of community, truly changing lives.
