This summer, I have the opportunity to serve at a minimum of 3 family and youth camps with a focus on Deaf Ministry. These camps support families, children, and individuals from the Deaf Community, creating spaces where everyone can belong, grow, be encouraged, and have access to language. My hope is to serve at Ohio Deaf Family Camp in Marengo, OH, and two weeks at Ability Tree Camp in Stevens, PA, using the skills I’ve learned in my ASL Interpreting program.
I believe the enemy exists to create roadblocks to prevent people from encountering the Gospel and to be in a loving community. I also truly believe Deafness itself is NOT the roadblock; lack of interpreters, language, and access are. I am so grateful for how the Deaf Community has mentored me, taught me, and welcomed me with grace and patience. My only desire is to raise enough money to volunteer and partner with them, making camp and Jesus accessible for all.
Because I’ll be away for multiple weeks and traveling between states, I’m raising funds to cover the practical costs that make this possible: camp registration fees, gas, tolls, lodging (both at the camps and during travel between Ohio and Pennsylvania), meals, vehicle wear and tear, personal items needed for camp, a small emergency buffer, and living support while I’m away from work. Every dollar raised directly supports the real, practical costs of serving at these camps. Your support allows me to say “yes” to opportunities that serve families, children, and the next generation in meaningful ways.
I’ll admit, I’m a bit nervous that I won’t be able to raise the funds. But I’m posting this in faith and trusting the Lord that the right doors will open if they’re meant to be. I also want to add that on the chance not enough money is raised, even if I am unable to go the camps, my desire is any funds raised will be donated to both camps! That way, the Deaf Community still benefits from it. And on the chance MORE than enough is raised, I was also asked to volunteer at potentially other camps focusing either on the Deaf Community or the Next Generation as a whole. If that happens, with all the donors’ blessing, I would love to keep serving at these camps! I am so appreciative for those who are still reading this! I’m leaving this in the hands of God and thanking everyone in advance for your generosity in whatever way you feel led to give :)
