Cara lost her Battle Against Rare Cancer Soft Tissue UPS

Unfortunately, Cara has lost her battle with Cancer. We were making great progress due to the donations here. Unfortunately due to complications eyond control Cara passed away on 5/20/25 at 12:19 pm est. Leaving behind 3 beautiful children ages 5, 7, and 9. We are devastated. I have lowered the goal to $50,000 and I am keeping thos open for anyone who may want to donate to help us through this terrible nightmare.

We love and appreciate all who donated. I wish I never had to make such a request. All we really want is the one thing we can't have which is to have Cara back.

Hardest request I will ever make. Our family has been rocked. These days when you hear about cancer, "HOPE" comes to mind. I promise you that the word "SARCOMA" hits different. High Grade Undifferentiated Pleomorphic Sarcoma (UPS) is fast, it is mean, it is rare, and it is unexplored.

My beautiful best friend and love of my life for 21 years, Cara Rosa. A wonderful mother, a caring friend, a kind heart, a confident ear, and too many more warm qualities to list, has had the misfortune of learning about this horrible word: Sarcoma.

We have gone to the best doctors and best surgeons in the best hospitals in the world. On Mother's Day 2024, a pain in her side turned out to be a massive liver tumor. It was removed by the best liver transplant surgeons 12 days later. We had high hopes, which were shattered just 2 months later when we learned that the significant recurrence is inoperable stage 4 and incurable Soft Tissue Sarcoma.

Anyone who knows me knows that I take challenges head-on. I have learned a lifetime of knowledge in this short time, and I have been fighting to change this story. Seeking new treatments and methods only to be told there are no viable options "COVERED" or "APPROVED" AT THIS TIME. Only chemo after chemo with the intention of slowing the inevitable. I refuse to accept that. Yes, we have been to all the best hospitals, yes, we have the best insurance, still the outlook and response is just dreadful. Following the doctors' plans has only worsened the situation and kept us a step behind this disease.

We finally found some doctors who think differently and are willing to try methods that are just not available yet. Drugs that can really work. They work better earlier, but the system is not designed that way. After finding these drugs only to have them pushed away by insurance companies who don't want to pay. We have no choice but to take the financial burden for drugs that cost $18,000 and $33,000 a dose. Eventually, they will be paid for, but we have had to fight to even get them to let us pay. The time we have lost fighting for that is invaluable.

Aside from the big bills, copay, and uncovered medicine. Insurance, travel, etc. We need help. Aside from treatments here, there are some treatments overseas we are seeking specifically at Sheba. I refuse to give up on Cara. She deserves better. I hear a lot of cancer stories, not many like Cara's. This is a very fast-growing sarcoma that leaves doctors scratching their heads. Yes, we have been to MSK, Mayo, Moffitt, MD Anderson, and a few others. This is too rare for them to care. Help us get what we need to keep the focus on Cara and her treatment. Everyone knows I am capable of being a workaholic and I can earn the money but I can't do it fast enough and I can't focus on scheduling, planning, communication along with all the other caretaker functions. I know this is a big ticket. We need it for good cause. I am not lazy, I am not grubby. Anyone who knows me knows I am giving always. I always give my best. This is for Cara, and our Kiddos. We have already missed opportunities and lost time we can't get back. I wouldn't ask if we didn't need it.
