Join Captain Lawson's Fight Against Cancer

My name is Donna Lawson. My husband, Captain Lawson, fell ill at the end of November 2023. The sickness caused him to limit work hours due to feeling bad. This carried over to January 2024 before he finally decided to seek medical attention. On January 2, 2024, he went to the ER because he continued choking on any food or drink he tried to consume. This led to a visit to a Gastroenterologist who performed several tests and endoscopy procedures. Upon that procedure, biopsies were taken that confirmed Esophageal Cancer Stage 2. We followed the diagnosis with five days a week of radiation for six weeks and chemotherapy once a week for six weeks as well. Everything went well, and we believed we were ready for surgery to have the affected esophagus removed and part of his stomach reattached. This was supposed to happen six weeks upon completed treatment. Within this time, my thriving husband went from 287lbs down to 170lbs to date. He hasn't been able to eat food, but pudding and applesauce became his meals. He at times experienced stomach pain but chalked it up to the treatments he was taking.

On the weekend of April 27th, 2024, he was experiencing stomach pain way worse than before, and abdominal pain became swollen abundantly. We went to the ER on April 30th, after many tests, CT scans, X-rays, and an endoscopy procedure. Doctors confirmed his pain was due to the cancer now moving into his stomach and spreading throughout, reaching stage 4. Diagnosis is now a life expectancy of weeks if he chooses to try chemotherapy; three months possible, one year at most. My husband is a fighter and has chosen chemotherapy. We have medical bills as well as household bills that are piling up, as I also had to be placed on stress medical leave from my job to take care of my husband during his illness as the power of attorney for his well-being. This has been a very hard six months for our family. We are hoping that we can get some very wonderful people who could help us in this time of need. We want to raise $50,000 to cover the medical expenses and bills. We thank you in advance, and God bless you all for your help.
