Hello Dear Friends,
We are Nicholas and Martha Chamberlain and we are so honored to be the parents of Camila Chamberlain. When Camila was 5 months old we noticed that she was favoring her left hand and had very little movement in her right hand. We began to grow very concerned and took her to her doctor that month. Her doctor quickly recommended that she be seen by a neurologist, rehab doctor, occupational therapist, and physical therapist. In August 2017 Camila was diagnosed with Right Hemiplegia Cerebral Palsy. Her doctors explained to us that Camila sustained a brain hemorrhage during the 3rd trimester. We were very devastated by this news and lived the first few years with worry for her as her doctors were not able to give us a prognosis for her medical condition. We did not know if Camila was ever going to be able to talk, if she was going to have typical cognitive function, have function of her right hand, stand, or walk. With much prayer, support from family and friends, and help from her wonderful therapists, Camila has met many of her goals and is now a talkative 4-year-old who loves to read books, help in the kitchen, watch Disney movies, and play with all of her toys.
However, Camila still has a long journey ahead of her. We are writing here today to humbly ask for assistance in funding for Camila to attend NAPA (Neurological and Physical Abilitation) Center in Los Angeles, California for a 3-week intensive therapy program. People fly from all over the world to attend this facility. The methods of therapy that they utilize with the intensive model at NAPA is found in very few places around the world. NAPA currently has 3 facilities altogether in Sydney, Los Angeles, and Boston. It was very difficult to get Camila a spot in this program and we are humbled and honored to have her be treated by the best therapists in the world.
Camila will be attending this therapy program from October 19th-November 6th. Her therapy will run Monday thru Friday where she will be receiving Physical Therapy 3 hours a day and Occupational Therapy 1 hour a day. This therapy will be very tiring for Camila as her body uses 10xs the energy we use each day but the progress that children obtain at this program is remarkable. Her funding would be used to pay for a portion of the program, hotel accommodations, and food (as we will not have access to a full kitchen during our stay in LA and will need to eat out often).
We are so excited to see the new goals that Camila will meet during her time at NAPA. We have full faith in Camila as she has been resilient since day 1. Nick and Martha have worked hard to find every opportunity for Camila in order to strengthen and develop her development. From day 1 we have had full faith in God and knew that Camila was a special child who has brought so much happiness and love to others. Please pray for our family as we embark on this journey together. Thank you for your support and please know that you are in our prayers too. Please also pray for other families who also have children with special needs. AMDG
