My husband, Bubba Wingfield, and I had a devastating, shocking diagnosis after a year of blood work and tests, trying to find out why he didn’t feel right.
In March, we finally found an unexpected answer. Bubba was diagnosed with Stage 1B Pancreatic Ductal Adenocarcinoma. With this news, Bubba, myself, and our 4 kids decided to do what we have taught them to do, and that’s fight this disease with all we have. To fight the cancer, we have had to change all we know about living. It is imperative to put all our energy and concentration on getting healed to win this fight… and then we can continue living many more years together.
We are standing up against this horrific disease with the complete help of God, and our friends and family. We are fighting it through chemotherapy for 6 rounds, followed by surgery (Whipple), and that will be 2 months of recovery. Once recovered, he will have 6 more rounds of heavy chemotherapy. Once all the treatment is over, we will have to get CAT scans every 3 months for 2 years to make sure it’s not recurring.
Bubba isn’t going to work for about a year during this rigorous schedule of treatment with the best of the best medical staff.
Bubba does renovation construction on houses, he is a trained appraiser, and he is also a local musician. All his income has been put on hold for a full year or longer. The supplement from the fantastic benefits at Cypress Point, The Pub, and McB’s have been extraordinarily phenomenal. We are so appreciative. We have had some friends/family wanting their names to stay anonymous, but they have donated so generously!
I am a nurse at UMMC and make a decent living, but I’ve never paid all our expenses with just my income. No one wants to ask for more help, but it’s the only thing I know to do. We are fine now, but we have to make it to the end of this year and possibly till mid-2026. Your love and support have been unbelievable. Thank you!
Jennifer Wingfield, RN, BSN
