Join Brogen's Fight Against Leukemia

After much discussion and consideration, and being people who never wanted to be in a position to have to ask for help, we have decided to put together this GoFundMe for our son, Brogen. On December 5th, after taking him to the doctor over the last several months, and being treated for this or that, we were given the worst news that no parent ever wants to hear, that our vibrant 5 year old boy, has Leukemia! His blood levels (hemoglobin was at a 2.7 and white blood count was at a 37,000) were at such dangerous numbers, that we had to be airlifted that night to Children's Mercy Hospital, so that he could immediately start to receive the treatment that ultimately saved his life!
Upon further tests, it was discovered that he has one of the rarer types of Leukemia, called Mixed-Phenotype Acute Leukemia/Lymphoma, that affects less than 5% of people who have Leukemia. Brogen was in the hospital for 9 days, and had to have 5 blood transfusions and 4 bags of platelets; we wish we could thank his donors for them! His oncology team has put together a plan of action for him, in the hopes that he can be in remission within the next 3 years, as this is a marathon not a race!
Moving foward, Brogen's treatment will consist of taking daily chemo medication at home, as well as us making the 2 hour drive, twice a week to the Oncology Clinic, so that he can receive the chemo infusions and lumbar punctures, with chemo shots into his spine, to clear his blood of the active cancer cells. On top of all this, the doctors discovered that Brogen has an aortic anomaly, and will need to have open heart surgery to repair it in the future, once he is stronger and the cancer is no longer attacking his body. He has a long road ahead of him, but he is a fighter, and we will continue to do whatever we need to do, to get our little boy onto the road of eventual recovery, as we just love him SO much and cannot imagine life without him!
We do have health insurance, but as many know, emergency air medical transfers are not cheap, as well as the weekly trips to the hospital for his treatments, the times that we will have to be there for overnight stays, as well as the future medically necessary procedures that may need to be done. With all this, we know that we will be facing some very high medical bills now and in the years to come, as some have already started to trickle in. If you feel like you are able to help, and not just monetarily (positive messages and kind words go a long ways), we would definitely welcome it! Thank you, and please keep the prayers coming, as we appreciate all the well wishes and gifts that we've already received!
We truly can't thank everyone enough for their compassion and generosity, during this very challenging time for our family.
