Last Thursday, June 20th, Ashley Curtis Kuester, who is 26 years old, began to develop severe headaches. They began to worsen over the course of a few days, when Monday, her husband, Karl Kuester, took her to the emergency room. After being evaluated, she was admitted where she later became unconscious. After testing, they found bleeding in the brain. She was life flighted to Tufts Medical Center in Boston, Massachusetts, where they put a drain in the right side of her skull in hopes to reduce pressure. On Tuesday, more thorough testing was done which found increased bleeding and pressure in her brain. Her medical team decided to add an additional drain on the left side of her skull. She was diagnosed with Arteriovenous Malformation (AVM). As of Wednesday, her medical team is still trying to stabilize her, and prepare for the next steps. These steps potentially include an open cranial procedure (1st option) and/or Gamma Knife Radiation (2nd option). Both of these procedures will hopefully terminate bleeding ultimately decreasing pressure in her brain. She is under the best possible care with her medical team and family by her side on her very long road to recovery. Karl has and will be missing work in order to be by his wife’s side, while also being there for their children Emery, who is 3 years old, and Fynn, who is 1 year old. The funds raised will contribute to medical bills, lost wages, child expenses, and all other expenses incurred during this difficult time.
Ashley is the daughter of Chris Curtis (Waymart, PA) and the late Diane Mustica Curtis (Forest City, PA), who lost her battle with brain cancer in 2004, when Ashley was 6 years old.
Please keep Ashley and her family in your thoughts and prayers during this time. Any donation would be greatly appreciated, and please share!
