Hello,

My name is Ashley. My daughter Emilee was diagnosed with a hereditary condition that I have. It causes polyps in the colon that can turn cancerous. Due to this, she will need to have two surgeries. One to remove the large intestine and place a temporary ileostomy (ostomy bag). 6 weeks after the surgery, they will go back to see if she has healed enough to put everything back together.

Throughout this, she has become severely anemic to the point that she needed a blood transfusion and four iron infusions. She may require a blood transfusion the morning of the surgery.

The condition that we have is familial adenomatous polyposis. It causes many problems, including colon cancer and can cause thyroid cancer. She also has three nodules on her left side of the thyroid that we are waiting to see an ENT, but the GI doctor and Endocrinologist believe they may suggest biopsies or possible removal of the thyroid.

A little about Emilee. She is the strongest, sweetest little girl ever. She was promoted from 8th grade and she had Honor Roll, even through everything that she is going through.
