Hello. My name is April. I was very recently diagnosed with colon cancer. It came as a complete shock. Last October I was told that I had diverticulitis. I’ve had a couple of what I thought were flare ups since but on June 9th I had one so bad I ended up in the ER. At that time they did another CT scan which didn’t show diverticulitis but instead showed a mass that was obstructing my colon, a lesion that had gotten larger on my liver, and a new liver lesion. They sent me to SSM St Joseph West where I was hospitalized for 8 days. While there I had a partial EGD, partial colonoscopy, colectomy, and liver biopsy. My colon pathology results came back as cancer as well as my liver biopsies. Chemotherapy is supposed to start in July. The diagnosis and surgery came completely by surprise. I spent most of my hospital stay in a mental “shock”, knowing what was happening but not fully processing what it all means. My doctors are optimistic which in turn makes me optimistic. It is time to fight this.
Please keep me in your prayers as we navigate the next steps. Right now I’m just taking it a day at a time. I know that God has this under control and by His healing I will be able to walk out of the other side of this whole.
In addition to the emotional distress, we do anticipate this to be a large financial burden. There will be many doctor visits in St Louis along with the cost of the treatments themselves, medical supplies, etc. Any support is appreciated.
