My daughter Arianna is 21 years old. She is autistic and has special needs. Anna will be aging out of the school system on May 18, 2020. Because of the covid 19 pandemic, my daughter and other students who are aging out will be at a standstill. They are at the end of high school and entering into an adult program. Because of this pandemic and the stay at home policy their transition has been deeply affected and could have detrimental consequences. Children that are autistic and deal with special needs have a very difficult time socializing and with change. They have worked very hard in school to make those social connections with their teachers and peers which has given them not only a sense of belonging but a successful education. Raising these funds for these individuals could help keep them connected with their teachers and peers in which they have worked so hard to connect and would enable them to have a successful transition into their new endeavors. These funds can help parents with academic expenses that the school can no longer provide. Whether it’s educational equipment or other academic supplies that will help them through this unusual transition in unwarranted times. For individuals with special needs every day can bring new obstacles in-turn creating new challenges. Having to mix dealing with a pandemic into the equation makes it that much more crucial to make sure these individuals don’t get lost and/or forgotten. They may not understand what is going on in the world around them but they do understand the effects of stress and negativity. Let’s give them a voice and let them be heard because they deserve a chance for continued success.
