Join Anjali in Supporting MedShare's Mission

Hello! My name is Anjali Menon and I'm a 9th grader at the Westminster Schools. Earlier this year, I started working with a company by the name of MedShare, which is a non-profit organization that works with hospital systems and manufacturers to divert unused medical supplies and high-quality medical equipment from landfills. Through a network of dedicated logistics services partners, they deliver thousands of pounds of essential resources directly to under-resourced communities both in the United States and across the globe every year.

When I first started working with them, I noticed that a major pain point when it comes to MedShare's organization process was the organization and categorization of surgical instruments required for surgeries. MedShare relies heavily on the help of volunteers to sort through the bags of equipment they receive, however, many of the volunteers who come to them don't have a background in healthcare or medicine, creating a void in the number of available volunteers qualified to help with surgical steel.

After looking through possible options, I identified an existing app called SID 3.0, which is a visual inspection software that can identify and categorize surgical instruments almost instantly using a simple camera on any mobile device. I have utilized the app and worked with it to put a process in place to sort and categorize surgical steel within MedShare. I have also developed a training module to train the volunteers specifically to identify and sort the surgical instruments. But the organization currently does not have enough devices for volunteers to download the app onto.

In your support of this project, your funding will go to purchasing three tablets to deploy the application and assist in training the MedShare volunteers. We are looking for small donations from many donors to help meet this goal.
