My son Alec recently had a well visit with his doctor. She was performing a standard physical and was poking at his belly when she said she felt something and ordered an ultrasound. 2 hours after the ultrasound was completed I got a phone call telling me to get him to Rochester. They discovered a 11cm mass (larger than my fist) on his left kidney and performed emergency surgery the next day. Cancer. My baby boy has CANCER!!! He had to have his entire left kidney removed along with lymph nodes and the interior abdominal lining. The good news is there appeared to be no metastasis and was limited to the kidney....although we really don't know because we can't see things on a cellular level. We have started a 6 month round of chemotherapy to hopefully prevent any regrowth. Chemo is never fun and he really isn't a fan of being poked and prodded. Currently healing from surgery and fighting the good fight. He will have a road ahead of him to travel. As will his parents as we make weekly trips to Rochester Strong Memorial Hospital for his chemotherapy. I currently am not working so I can stay home and care for my son during this difficult time. Any and all proceeds are deeply appreciated and will be used to help care for Alec, provide transportation and help with our household bills.
Any and all help is very much appreciated!!!
