Abby has been battling Brain Cancer for the past 9 years. She was first Misdiagnosed in 2015 and had her first tumor removal in 2016. Unfortunately due to being misdiagnosed and not receiving any Chemotherapy or Radition the tumor grew back double. She was then properly diagnosed by the wonderful Team at Roswell and told she has a Grade 2 Astrocytoma which was removed in 2019 and she went under 6 months of Chemo. Abby was under close observation for the past 5 years and has been stable with no tumor regrowth. During this time Abby was able to continue working Fulltime and live life normally. She has shown how absolutely strong and determined she is that she will not let this set her back.
Fast Forward to Wednesday May 29th 2024 Abby went into her routine 6 month appt with her husband Asher and Mother Renee and they all thought nothing of it. It was just a normal day where they stop to get coffee on the way and when the appt is done they go shopping and just seize the day with the blessing she has made it another 6 months. But unfortunately this was not the case. The scans showed a nodule on the lining of her brain. An immediate appt was scheduled for the following Monday with her Neurosurgeon where we learned she would have surgery on June 11th 2024.
Abby underwent a 3 1/2 hour surgery where they removed the nodule and sent it away for biopsy where we learned she has a whole new tumor. This was was determined to be an IDH Wild Grade 4 Gilosarcoma with 1 to 2 years of survival.
Which we were then told there is only 2 reported cases in history and she would be number 3. There isn't a successful treatment that we can do. So they are starting with Agressive Radiation 5 days a week for 6 Weeks and Chemotherapy 7 days a week for 6 weeks.
Abby was able to go home 3 days after surgery to recover from home until treatment. She went back to a follow-up appt to have her stitches removed. Unfortunately things didn't end there and Abby had her incision split open and had a CSF leak. That night she was brought back to try and close the incision. Tissue glue and steri strips did the job until they got home. They then had to go back and be readmitted for an emergency weekend surgery to Revise the incision. They then ended up having to restitch the entire incision and doing a spinal tap to release pressure on her incision. This time around she has to wait 3 full weeks before the stitches can be removed. She has a touch of Hydrocephalus where the spinal fluid in her brain isn't reabsorbing into her blood leaving a pocket on her head. Right now it is just waiting until it reabsorbs.
Tentatively Abby will start Radiation and Chemo sometime after July 12th.
With all of this being said Abby is no longer able to work, and is focusing on healing and beating this cancer! With not being able to work it has put a substantial dent into their finances and staying afloat with treatments and traveling back and forth to the Roswell Hospital has been really hard.
They are asking for love and support through this tough time and Donations are not expected but always appreciated.
