We are incredibly lucky and headed to Italy for our honeymoon! Our plan is to stay at AirBnB's (renting local peoples homes) with stops in Rome, Florence, Venice, the Chinque Terre, Pisa, then back to Rome and home. Just typing this has us excited, as neither of us has ever been to Italy.
We were inspired to try and make Italy our honeymoon destination when were staying at an AirBnB (our first experience and a great one) in San Francisco in the Italian neighborhood of North Beach. We were celebrating our engagement on a trip through California and went to dinner at an Italian restaurant and loved it! The food, music and loud atmosphere resonated with both of us and we thought how cool it would be if we could go to Italy for our honeymoon. It became a reality when a friend helped us get discounted plane tickets, and we couldn't have done it without them.
If you'd like to help us out, we're asking for money to help pay for our lodging, which will be a total of $1,376 for all our AirBnB stays which are described below. That includes all 13 nights of our trip. Also, we're asking for help with the train tickets we'll need to get around, which should total around $426. We plan on buying those while we're there so we can be flexible.

While there we really want to see the Colosseum (which is near the place we're staying so we can walk), the Pantheon, and Vatican City. There will be so much to see there we can't wait. A blessing from the Pope would be sweet, but we're not counting on it...We've been reading and watching lots of Rick Steves and talking to friends and family who have visited Italy to be smart with our time. Also, what we aren't able to see on our first days there, we can see when we return to Rome to fly out and have 2 more nights.
After Rome, we are taking the train to Florence (which should be around $80). While there we'll be staying at https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/4065316
In Florence we plan on going to the Accademia, Uffizi Gallery, and climbing to the top of the Duomo.
From Florence we get on the train and head to Venice ($70). In car-free Venice we'll be staying at https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1799959
It's located in right in the middle of the city which is an experience we really want to have. That's a really cool part about the AirBnB's is that you really get to stay where the locals live!
While in Venice, we want to explore St Mark's Square and St. Mark's Basilica, the Grand Canal, and take a romantic gondola ride.
Next up is our longest train ride from Venice to Vernazza in the Chinque Terre ($152). We'll be staying at https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/1143888
This is where we want to explore the market, cook food at our place, and slow down. There are great hikes and wineries to visit and the harbor to enjoy.
After our time in Chinque Terre we head to Pisa ($44). In Pisa we'll be staying one night at https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/4667081
While there we plan on climbing the Leaning Tower of Pisa, the Duomo, and exploring more of the Field of Miracles.
From there we head back to Rome ($80) and will be staying 2 nights at https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/4354031
While there, we plan on visiting any of the myriad sites we weren't able to on our first visit. Then we fly back to Portland and our beautiful home to see the great strides our dog Lola made while we were gone!
