Johny (JJ) Jasevicius

My name is Annie Jasevicius Edwards. Johny is my younger brother and owner of JJ's Customs and Restorations, Cushman Rd. St. Catharines. It is unimaginable to think that this could happen to anyone let alone my younger brother. Shortly after Christmas Johny started feeling sick. He couldn't breath, had no strength or energy. When I heard he hadn't been to his beloved shop in 4 weeks, I knew the severity of the matter. Up until this time his doctor told him it was the flu. Covid tests came back negative. Unwillingly he was brought to the hospital. It was at that time we found out that he only had days to live. Immediate testing, scans, exrays, MRIs, blood cultures by a team of cardiologists, nurses, resporologists, infectious disease doctors, surgeons, internist, pulmonary and more didn't lead us to a diagnosis. They found a heart malformity. Blood and heart infection which was found in all of his internal organs. His lungs had a black shadow on both of them and no one could tell us what it was. On 100% oxygen pump he is able to breath. He has endocarditis which was identified as heart failure back in December possibly when this nightmare started. After 11 days in ICU they sent him home. 3 days later ambulance brought him back. He was transferred to Hamilton General CCU. His lungs and heart are too weak to carry out further procedures for diagnosis. He needs open heart surgery to repair his heart but would never survive the surgery. He is confused. His breathing is labored and he is scared. Right now his doctors are working on ways to keep him off a ventilator and putting him a drug induced comma. They feel if the machine did the breathing, he might be able to heal. Every second of every minute of every hour we watch him inhale and exhale and pray it isn't his last. I cannot believe I am writing these words about my brother. He is a fighter and has always been a great son, uncle, brother in law, Opa, stepdad, friend and partner to Patricia. Johny has always been the one that our family turns to. Johny could fix anything from a worn out shoe to a broken dishwasher. A tiny scratch to a huge collision job. Restoration is his Forte and was written up in Road and Track magazine when he was only 18 years old. He is feeling helpless when it comes to Patti. She lost her sister just after Christmas. This is more than anyone should have to endure. His pride, joy and lifetime achievement is his shop. He often said he would never be a rich man. He loved what he did. He was able to make ends meet somehow or another JJ's Customs and Restorations and not his health, is his only concern. The bills have been piling up since December with little hope of paying them. He has an employee at the shop who is working to keep the lights on. Payroll has been a challenge We don't know what the future holds and if he will ever be able to return to work. The thought of him shutting the doors, while going through this nightmare, could be more than he could handle. His family is trying to keep his business afloat but that isn't going to be enough. First and foremost please keep this beautiful human being in your thoughts and prayers. No one deserves this. Especially not JJ.
