John's Memorial Bench - George Wallace Park
George Wallace Park in the DTC area is where John held many of his outdoor workouts the last 25+ years of his career. It's the place that I, as well as many of you have have the fondest and closest memories of John. The comradery of huffing, puffing, sweating and swearing on the workout blocks, the meadow, the small hill and the BIG hill are the memories that bind us together forever. Halloween and Christmas costumes, the Ice Block races down the BIG hill and the after workout socializing. It was all so much fun!!
George Wallace Park is a Denver City Park and after some inquiry, we found out that a Memorial Plaque could be placed on those benches as well. There are many benches around the park, but the one that stands out is the bench we used as the marker where we could finally stop that damn skipping - take a break, walk back down and start all over again. This bench has an excellent view of the small hill, meadow and workout blocks.
So, with that being said, we are endeavoring to raise $2500 to place a Memorial Plaque on the "Skipping Bench" for 10 years. I know many of you contributed to the Wash Park Bench and there is no obligation to contribute to this bench fundraiser.
For those who wish to contribute, we would like you to determine the quotation that will be placed on the Plaque. John's favorite sayings were "You Should be There" and "There is No Stopping". Please place your vote for one or the other of these phrases by leaving a comment. The weblink to leave a comment is on the email receipt you will receive with any donation.
Thank You
