John's in-home care and medical
Donation protected
John was first diagnosed with cancer in 2017 after a sudden onset of troubling symptoms. It seems as if one day they were able to walk around their favorite local attractions, and then the next, he was in the hospital getting the scariest news of anyone's life.
Despite fighting his hardest through the chemo and trying to recover, and seeing rays of progress, the monster has taken over. It has spread to the liver and the prognosis is not too hopeful.
John is now at home on hospice as of March 2018, but still needs help as the hospice is not providing much more than bare minimum. His wife Tanya is doing all she can to care for him, and is struggling during this emotional time.
People on hospice often need 24 hour care. This is such the case with John. Tanya not only has to work to keep bills paid, but she has to constantly care for John and it is not an easy task at times.
People have asked, "How can we help?" For starters, they need more consistent medical assistance in the home, someone to help with cleaning on a regular basis, and someone who can help watch John, at night especially, so that Tanya can also get rest. They also need a little help getting various supplies that hospice does not cover. To do this, they need some assistance with funding:
*They will need to hire additional medical staff.
*They will need to retain cleaning services.
*They will need to retain a respite service so that Tanya, as caregiver, can also get some time to decompress.
*They also need to ensure the utilities stay on and the rent paid, and doing so on one income is incredibly challenging, especially when the one who has to be caretaker must also work full-time.
Local friends can only help so much during their off-work hours, and are generally not medically trained. The need to hire help has become a reality because Hospice only provides one visit a day, for an hour or less. There is no support like they advertise, which is making them feel like they're in this on their own. Please help make this remaining time a little easier on the two of them by donating anything from time and services, to very much needed funding to hire help that Hospice just won't provide.
