John’s Clinical Trial
Donation protected
I know it has been quite a while for any major updates on John. We had a time where the disease was undetectable, unfortunately that didn’t mean it was all gone, and the small amount that was there eventually came back and we had a recurrence of his leukemia. His counts have been up and down and we had a scare with a really aggressive, and usually lethal, fungal infection that we were able to clear up and get past. We have just been keeping him stable waiting for a clinical trial to open up in Texas that would be the only other possible cure for what he has. That time has come, unfortunately with very little notice ahead of time and we are now heading down to Huston to Texas Children’s Hospital. The trial is going to use his own cancer cells, after being reprogrammed and put back into his body, to fight the leukemia. The treatment currently has around a 50% success rate, and will require another bone marrow transplant, but this is the only other treatment that is available that can possibly cure what he has. With the treatment being a clinical trial it will be covered by the hospital and research team, but his regular hospital checkups and our monthly expenses won’t all be covered unfortunately. I understand that times are tough for everyone and we already received so much help on our first hospital trip to Cincinnati but anything will help. Even if you aren’t able to donate we completely understand and welcome you to follow up on how his treatment goes, we will do our best to update on here as things come up. We appreciate any and all support as always and we hope everyone is doing well and taking care.
