Johnny's Journey Back

Hi, my name is Darren Bates and I'm fundraising for my dear friend, musical brother and bandmate, Johnny B (Bartolotta). Johnny is one of the most gifted drummers I've ever had the pleasure of making music with. His rythm is like a clock, he never over-plays and he throws in some of the tastiest fills you can imagine.

Besides his musical prowess, Johnny B is a true friend...someone who really has your back. We've been there for each other during tough times. Most recently, he was there for me when I was struggling financially; but it's not just financial struggles. He's been there just to offer a word of encouragement or advice when asked.

Johnny B has been dealing with the recent death of his mother and now his father is very near death as well. I know the stress has weighed heavily upon him. We've spent time in prayer asking for God's guidance and grace as well as His tender mercies where we can all find peace in the midst of trying times.

It's somewhat ironic that just this past weekend, while the concern for his father was foremost on his mind, Johnny B suffered a very debilitating stroke. It seems to have affected the left side of his body the most. He is unable to walk, stand or use his left hand. In speaking with him this past week, he struggles to express himself verbally. It is very difficult to witness. Johnny B is several years younger than me. For him to have been stricken with this...just doesn't seem fair.

Johnny B is a fighter. He says he's going to fight as hard as he can to recover. I don't know if he realizes how long and difficult the road ahead is; but his courage and his belief are very inspiring and encouraging.

Johnny B cannot work now. He's going to need help with medical bills and rehab. His immediate need is an electric wheelchair.

I'm asking on Johnny B's behalf for your financial support. Please help ensure that he gets the care that he needs and the chance to recover which he so desperately desires. Please help put those sticks back in the hands of a masterful musician who has given pleasure to so many listeners and to the musicians who were blessed to share the stage with him.
