A good friend of mine recently lost his father, so as a community, I am hoping we can come together to help his family manage the difficult days ahead.

With his family's permission, I am starting this Go Fund Me in the memory of his father, Johnny Sudds. Please consider donating if you are able.

The following is a statement from the family:
"Our family is very sad. Johnny Sudds is no longer physically part of our lives. We miss him, and he misses us all. Surely, he also misses life, but I know he is smoking cigarettes, blaring loud music from his car and driving a friend to Chilliwack wherever he is.

Johnny took his last breaths on May 24th in a small ceremony a top the roof of Vancouver General Hospital. He was unconscious, in no pain and, I believe, ready. Nine days earlier, he had been struck by a vehicle in the West End, injuries from which he would not recover from.

This GoFundMe is to raise money for supporting Johnny’s family in their adjustment period, to help with funeral arrangements, and to add to the small shrine built to memorialize Johnny at Comox and Bute Streets. The money shall be used sparingly.

In life, Johnny loved to share. He was always sharing his cigarettes, buying people food and giving people money. If someone was in need, Johnny always stopped. He himself having been, as he would say, on the streets in the 1960s and 1970s, he taught his family to also always stop for people, to see how we can help one another.

Additional money raised will go towards supporting people in the downtown that Johnny used to support himself, and following up on his wishes to work alongside unhoused people to help them voice their desires for social change and improvement."
