It takes a lot for me to reach out like this, but as our local friends are aware, my husband Johnny "Johnny Set" Setcavage was diagnosed in 2011 as having Stage 2 Kidney Disease.  It progressed quickly to ESRD where he needed dialysis 4x per day as he did his dialysis at home rather than choosing clinic dialysis.  As with such an illness, the heart becomes affected as well with time.
On September 13, 2018 Johnny suffered a massive heart attack (widow maker) and had spent 25 days in the hospital alone followed by a stint in rehab to learn how to walk again and while very little, he did require speech therapy during his rehabilitation with therapy then continued at home for several more weeks.
The doctor's had said with luck, he could return home at the earliest, Christmas.  If you know Johnny, that wasn't an option for him due to spending much of his youth in and out of hospitals as he was also a severe asthmatic.  Through sheer determination and will power, Johnny returned home much earlier than each doctor had suspected, he came home the end of October.
While his body was recovering from the trauma of this first massive heart attack, he suffered another on February 15, 2019 in another part of his heart.  This particular heart attack had taken away life as he knew it.
Through these heart attacks along with the kidney disease, he also suffered from a pleural effusion, congestive heart failure, broken ribs from the paddles, and many other issues but his body was never the same, especially his left leg which eventually led him in recent months to no longer be able to walk.
Johnny worked hard his whole life and with his illness came many struggles.  When he was no longer able to continue to work, his employer was more than unkind in how his disability was handled.  He had worked at his job for 24 years and held the position of Assistant Foreman for several years before becoming the Foreman himself.  Being he was no longer able to physically perform his job, taking care of the issues he was now dealing with, it was never offered by his employer to continue his life insurance policy and truthfully, that was something not on the top of the list of our worries at that time.  Therefore, the policy had lapsed and no insurance company would insure an unhealthy individual.  His retirement was spent on medical bills that were piling up as we qualified for no state offering of help.
On May 18, 2020 after being on hospice just shy of 4 weeks, Johnny had passed away from the deterioration of his body through his various illnesses.  He has left behind myself and a 17 year old son and through his loss, his disability pay will cease until I am aged 60.  Although I was his constant caretaker, I work a part time job that paid our extras and his income paid the bills.
With Johnny's passing, Braedon and myself can survive, but there is nothing extra that I can afford to make payments on anything of a high dollar amount.
While I am not concerned for my future, I am concerned of giving Johnny a proper burial and a headstone we had discussed and designed knowing what the outcome of his illness would be one day.
I lower my head in asking for help while swallowing my pride in doing so, but I reach out to anyone who can help Braedon and I cover the cost of the small service that will be held privately at Johnny's wishes.
The only thing I can give back to any of you, while will never seem enough, is my gratefulness.
Thank You
