On Saturday 8 November, Johnny (also known as J, Cuthbert, John, Mozza and ‘Farty Bottom Daddy’), loving husband and father, was out doing what he loved, cycling with friends in one of his favourite places, the Southern Highlands NSW. Sadly, a tragic accident left him with a traumatic brain injury that he could not recover from.

In his final act of generosity and courage, Johnny gave the gift of life as an organ donor — a true reflection of the person he was, a gift that has already enriched and renewed multiple lives.

Johnny leaves behind his beautiful wife of 20 years Sarah and their gorgeous daughter Izzie, as well as his parents, Allison and Fred, his sisters, Robyn and Jane and a lifetime of wonderful friends and family in both the UK and Australia.

Johnny and Sarah met 20 years ago at a friend’s wedding in Oxford. They loved nothing more than travelling, chasing the Tour de France, and were at their happiest when their house was full of friends and laughter. They welcomed their daughter Izzie in 2011 and after many happy years in the UK, made the move to Australia to be closer to Johnny’s family.

They recently spent five wonderful weeks with their closest friends and family back in the UK, Johnny cycling with the OCC and finally conquering a lifetime dream of summiting Alpe d’Huez in France, before packing up their home in Oxford and heading back to embrace their new life in Australia.

Johnny proudly served his community as Captain of Coledale Fire Station 258. His colleagues describing him with “kindness, humour and a quiet strength that helped shaped the culture of their station”. He was known for his integrity, dedication and for always putting others before himself.

Johnny was such a vibrant and engaging member of his community - both in the UK and here. His family, friends, cycling crews ‘The Garrulous Grimpeurs and Oxford Cycling Club (OCC)’, the Austinmer Early Morning Swimmers, 258 Coledale Firies and work colleagues are all feeling this untimely loss deeply.

Johnny’s life touched so many with kindness, generosity, and warmth. Losing someone so special is never easy, and during this difficult time we are inviting all those who are able, to join to honour his memory.
Any contribution, no matter how small, will make a difference, and is a practical way to support Sarah and Izzie amidst the tragic shock of his passing.

If you are unable to give financially, your love, thoughts and prayers, and the sharing of this page, mean just as much to honour Johnny’s legacy and support the family.
