This is Johnny, 26 years old. We were told that Johnny was born with an acute kidney injury, but unfortunately, this was undetectable until his kidneys had failed at 13 years of age when he collapsed in the bathroom tub and was transported to Tampa General Hospital where his mom received his diagnosis. He then began aggressive dialysis 3 times a week. At 21 years old, in 2020, Johnny received a kidney transplant, but in 2023, while incarcerated, he was given the wrong medications, and all 3 kidneys rejected. Due to his heart having to work extra, he developed congestive heart failure.

Fast forward to June 25th, 2025, Johnny went to Winter Haven Hospital due to a pain in his arm. They informed him he also needed dialysis. While doing dialysis, Johnny had a seizure; vomit got into his lungs and blocked his airway, which caused his heart to stop. During rescue measures, it took them 11 minutes to bring him back. He was placed on full life support and put on a ventilator. The next day, he received a CT scan which unfortunately showed very little brain activity and severe brain damage. We were then told that Johnny would never be Johnny again and it would be very likely that he would not ever wake up again. We prayed, we waited, and we fought! Due to no improvement after several tries to wake him up, on September 3rd, Johnny was given his last dialysis treatment, taken off life support, and had his feeding tube out. On September 4th, Johnny was transferred to Good Shepherd Hospice where he will be made comfortable as he transitions to be with God.

His insurance will not cover the expenses of the funeral and cremation due to his passing of kidney disease, which is a disease he was diagnosed with before he was insured.
