My brother Johnny Dee recently went through a life-saving situation. He went into the hospital for what was supposed to be a routine heart ablation, a procedure to help put his heart back in rhythm. Many people have had this done, and it usually takes just a few hours as an outpatient procedure. We never expected anything to go wrong.

During the procedure, something happened and Johnny's heart started to bleed. He developed blood clots, and that evening, the doctor called me with news I could hardly believe—Johnny needed emergency surgery to save his life. The surgery was open heart, and thankfully, it was successful. Johnny is now recovering, but the road ahead is long. He will be unable to work for 6 months to a year. As an Uber driver, he has no income coming in and could lose his vehicle and Uber license, which are his livelihood. In addition, Johnny's other source of income as a professional Santa is in jeopardy, as he will be unable to work for quite some time. On top of that, there will be many medical bills, even after insurance covers most of the costs.
